Niederhorn

The Niederhorn stands at 1,963 metres above Beatenberg, on the northern rim of the Bernese Oberland where the Emmental Alps slope down to Lake Thun. The Niederhornbahn cable car climbs from Beatenbucht on the lakeshore in 30 minutes. At the top, the view divides: Lake Thun directly below to the south, the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau rising beyond it to the south-east.
Ibex colonies roam the upper slopes freely. On Thursdays from July to September, the cable car runs a first ride at 06:50 for guided wildlife observation with a local hunter. The Güggisgrat ridge trail leads east to Burgfeldstand at 2,063 metres, through heather and alpine roses. On clear days, the view north extends to the Jura and the Aare valley.
The Berghaus at the summit has a sun terrace facing the Alps. At this altitude, there is little reason to rush.
